In June, House and Senate Republicans said the state budget passed was too reliant on higher taxes, fundamentally flawed and wasn't fully vetted.

“We stand at the ready to work with both the governor and the Democratic majority to balance state budget and reverse the terrible course set three months ago, which included the second-highest tax increase in our state’s history, “ Devlin said. “We need to stop business as usual. The public deserves better than a state budget that is in perpetual deficit.”

Kupchick said: “The budget crisis facing Connecticut is a direct result of one-party rule. I am hopeful bipartisan budget talks will yield a fiscally sound future for the people of our state.”

Hwang said: “Connecticut’s current budget and one-party governing is not working, therefore we need to chart a new policy course. A bipartisan and honest application of shared leadership and shared sacrifice ideas can help fix the state’s broken budget and put Connecticut back on a sustainable path. I am encouraged that we are finally working for and listening to the people that we represent. I am anxious to go back to work.”

House and Senate Republicans petitioned for a special session to solve the budget crisis and called on Gov. Dannel Malloy for bipartisan talks and a special session to fix the growing budget deficit.

This week, both the governor and legislative Republicans unveiled their budget mitigation plans while the legislative Democratic majority did not submit a proposal.
